When you live your
life with an appreciation of coincidences and their meanings,
you connect with the underlying field of infinite possibilities.

What is Cancer?
Cancer is a
group of more than 100 different diseases
characterized by the uncontrolled, abnormal
growth of cells. These cells form a lump or mass
called a tumour. Some cancers, however, such as
blood cancers, do not form tumours. Tumours can be
benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
Benign tumours may grow, but they do not spread
to other parts of the body and are usually not
life-threatening. Malignant tumours grow and
invade other tissues in the body.
Sometimes cancer will spread to the lymph nodes.
Lymph nodes are tiny, bean-shaped structures
that filter the flow of lymph, the clear fluid
that plays a role in the body's immune system.
Lymph nodes are located in clusters in different
parts of the body, such as the neck, groin area,
and under the arms. Cells from malignant tumours
can also break away and travel to other parts of
the body, where they can continue to grow. This
process is called metastasis. Metastatic cancer
is named for the part of the body where it
started. For example, if breast cancer spreads
to the lungs, it is called metastatic breast
cancer, not lung cancer.
Cancer can begin almost anywhere in the body.
Tumours are named for the type of cell where the
cancer started. For example, carcinomas begin in
the skin or tissue that covers the surface of
internal organs and glands. Sarcomas begin in
the connective tissue, such as muscle, fat,
cartilage, or bone.
The most common types of cancer
are prostate, lung, breast, and colorectal
cancers, not including basal and squamous cell
skin cancers. Lung, colorectal, breast,
pancreatic, and prostate cancers are also the
five most common causes of cancer death.
Cancer statistics should be interpreted with
caution. It is not possible to tell a person how
long he or she will live with cancer. Because
the survival statistics are measured in
five-year (or sometimes one-year) intervals,
they may not represent advances made in the
treatment or diagnosis of this cancer.
Risk Factors
A risk factor
is anything that increases a person's chance of
developing a disease such as cancer. People can
control some risk factors, such as tobacco use.
Other risk factors, such as age or ethnicity,
cannot be controlled. Although risk factors can
influence disease, for many risk factors, it is
not known whether or not they actually cause the
disease directly. Risk factors help doctors
identify people who may be at higher risk of
developing cancer.
Understanding
your risk for cancer is important. People who
have close relatives with cancer or close
relatives who have died from cancer, especially
at a younger age, may be at higher risk. For
example, a woman whose mother or sister had
breast cancer is twice as likely to develop
breast cancer than a woman who does not have
this same family history. People who have a
history of cancer may benefit from screening
tests at an earlier age or on a more frequent
basis. People with a known genetic syndrome in
the family may consider Genetic Testing. Your
doctor or a genetic counselor can help you
analyse your risk of developing cancer.
Causes
of Cancer
Genetics –
unknown (Breast – 5% true)
External
agents – 40-50%
Tobacco alone
30-35%
Infections up
to 15% in 3rd world
Occupational
was as high 10%
Dietary
factors – 20-30%
Genetics and cancer
Cancer occurs
because of mutations in the genes:
Responsible
for cell multiplication and repair.
Does not mean
that the disease is heritable.
Genetics may
therefore eventually play an important role in
the control of cancer
Under genetic
influence:
Interactions
with environmental factors
Frequently
associated with genetic changes.
Thus it may be
eventually possible to identify those
individuals at special risk of tobacco or
diet-associated cancers, and also those
susceptible to the effects of environmental
contaminants.

How can Coaching Help?
Our intention is to
promote and support healing by assisting people
with cancer and other illnesses to access their
healing potential and their ability to thrive.
If we could launder the word “cancer,” hang it
out in the sun to dry and bring it in bleached
white and beautiful, I promise you that there
would be less cancer and less death from it.
Souls would choose other ways.
The issue of cancer
is the issue of fear! Cancer brings a message of
fear-that is so prevalent in all your world. And
so the illness must be dealt with squarely as
fear.

You are your own diagnostician and your own
doctor, if you will but listen.
Every part of
an illness, dysfunction, or pain is you. Listen

your body. And be willing to hear the message.
Please
understand that consultations and hands-on
sessions are supportive measures for your
personal healing and recovery and are not
intended to replace medical diagnosis and/or
treatment!
A Personal Note from Billi
Hi
there,
I
would just like to share that I
will hit my 15yr A.C. (After Cancer) milestone on 24 June 2012, and have never
felt healthier!
I am
not going to tell you that having cancer is fun
or that it
is all easy, or that it is not painful, or that
everyone's cancer is
the same or that everyone reacts the same, or
that you are not
going to feel depressed or angry, or any of
those normal platitudes that one hears.
What
I am going to say to you is this:
Information is Power!
Find out
as much as you can about the specific type of cancer you
have.
If you feel sad, angry, depressed -
express those emotions!
Contact
one of
the linked institutions and speak to someone who has
been through what you have and survived.
Talk about it!
Talking about it helps you to cope better.
Try to
remain as positive as possible,
and surround yourself with positive people - negative energies will do you
more harm at this stage.
Laugh! Laughter is
the best medicine for any illness.
And last but not
least ~ remember: A cancer diagnosis is not a
death-sentence!
Please note that
information will be updated as regularly as
possible on this website or on the blog, so please return
often
